DATA-DADA is a software based interconected packing algorithm, which reads different color map arrays, either by random, noise and/or manual values.
it consists of:
– predefined color tables.
– randomly mixed scales of predefined color tables
– random color picks out of algorithmically manipulated color arrays.

30 keyboard keys were linked to the color tables, which i assambled and collected together over the years out of all kind of material.
4 keyboard keys are for controlling size manipulation, transparent shutter and the recording control.

to put colored circles on a white sheet, implies – to me – a very fundamental expression of the beauty and pleasure of painting.

the circle represents the most perfect form and at the same time all contradictions seem to be embedded within it.
that pi, the key connection between radius and circumference, is (probabely) infinite and (probabely) without a certain pattern
or systematic and that sience could not solve that riddle until today, is really fantastic and says it all.

all circle units are interconnected, sending theyr own color beam and receiving the one of the other interconnected circle.
when i play with this software, i start throwing the dice for a list of start values combined with a different color maps and later react
to the constellations by going over and over it again.
at a certain point, i finish a recording as a vector image for possible print.

packing BOX 01

 

packing BOX 01 is realizes using a packing algorithm to generate different square packing vector files via processing.
later on build up of a plywood box of 4 layers 4mm plywood and the laser cutting of each side and the removal of the non clued  parts.

is realized using an isometric packing algorithm in processing for generating vector files,
which are deep engraved onto the sides of an mdf box.

starGrid II

 

 star grid series consists of a X Y axis grid of bezier vector curves. a seperate vector curve object defines all vector properties such as color, transparency and/or stroke weight.  the vector object is rotated around “0” to get the star shape and to later position them within different grid arrays.

generative MATTER

generative MATTER is an older workgroup based on different use of processing particle systems.

noiseWave

 

noiseWave is another processing based works series which aims to generate very painting like images. in this case particularly land- or seascape like compositions.
the algorithm is pretty simple; having a shape, in this case a square, moving it in horizontal rows, scaling it and turning it by noise values, shifting the y axis by noise value and coloring each row with another fill and stroke value. finally adding some random values to make it more rough and balancing out all the different values to each other for reaching a result most approximate to the idea.

iteration error

the iteration error work series came together by coding a quite simple error, noticing the interesting structures coming up, it later was more brought to shape…
the iteration principle consists of a triangle within a X Y axis grid, which are devided in number and size and applied with a certain color map and another on/off state. each repetition of the process results in one iteration, which is used as the starting point for the next iteration. between 6 upto 9 levels are recorded.

packing hacking 01 / laser relief

the packing hacking work series came first to life during my “generator x” workshop participation in 2008. having the first time access to a laser cutter,
the final idea of 3-5 layered plywood bas relief emerged throughout many different experiments with layered laser cutted forms, different composing and coloring techniques.
2 years later i followed this concept and realized a series of works at 80 x 60 cm, layered in (acryl) colored 4mm plywood, differently laser-cutted and /or engraved using different circle packing algorithms.
